Metro Vancouver's truth in advertising. Photo: www.glave.com
Written by: Julie Ovenell-CarterIn the so-obvious-why-hasn’t-anyone-thought-of-it-before department: my friendly neighbourhood culdesactivist James Glave just tipped me off to the news that Vancouver’s new Fairmont Pacific Rim is giving guests a greener option when it comes to bottled water.
In support of Metro Vancouver’s recent campaign to promote the city’s excellent tap water (and significantly reduce plastic waste) the hotel is stocking rooms with reusable bottles in addition to the one-off disposables. The co-branded metal bottles cost $12.95–but the refills are free!
It’s an industry first apparently, but it’s an idea that’s so simple it’s, well, sustainable.
Kudos to Fairmont for getting with the program and let’s hope it’s not too long before other hotels start picking this low-hanging greenfruit…

on December 20th, 2010Hi Julie, thanks for your interest in Metro Vancouver’s initiative to get refillable bottles in hotel guest rooms.
If you liked that idea you may also be interested in our free new iPhone app, Tap Map, to help people find the closest public drinking fountain.
