Win an Edge Pass and ski, hike or ride the Peak-2-Peak gondola at Whistler Blackcomb in 2009/10
Written by: Julie Ovenell-CarterThe Georgia Straight, in its recent “Best of” edition, wryly suggested that “total denial” was the best coping strategy for Vancouverites during BC’s upcoming Olympic games: just ignore the party in your living room and get on with normal life.
Well, if your normal life includes snow sports, you may find a lot of sense in that strategy now that Whistler Blackcomb is pushing back against so-called “Olympic aversion” with a best-price-in-a-decade season pass offer.
Buy before October 12 and you’ll score an adult pass for just $1,099–$430 less than last year.
When I was up in Whistler two weeks ago, I spoke to a lot of locals who are laughing because they think they’re finally going to have the slopes to themselves because many people believe the mountains will be the sole turf of Olympians and their hysterical fans.
But it’s just not true: 90% of the runs will remain open to the public during the Winter Games. And okay, parking will likely be a nightmare during February (unless you have a hotel reservation that includes parking), but that’s why God made buses folks.
So go ahead: live in denial and buy a pass.
Want to win two one-day Edge Cards to Whistler Blackcomb for the 2009/10 season?
Just leave a comment below about why you want to win two passes to ski, hike or ride the Peak-2-Peak gondola. I’ll do a random draw on October 12 at 8 pm Vancouver time.
Tweet this contest (there’s a Twitter button just over there on the right) for a second chance to win!
Update: This contest is now closed.
Congratulations to Erika Wah of Vancouver, BC who made this plea:
“I will need those passes to make up for the days my 6 year old begs me to take her out to ski, and I lose a perfect day of powder on the glacier to ski blue all day
“

on October 8th, 2009I barely scratched the surface when I went there. I was a beginner and restricted to only green runs. Now I want to go back and rock the sh** out of the whole mountain!

on October 8th, 2009I’d love to win two passes to ski Whistler using the Peak-2-Peak gondola because I want to make sure my amazing experience of skiing one of the world’s most glorious mountains last year was for real.
It was the first time I had ever experienced skiing Whistler using the still new Peak-2-Peak gondola. I basked in the brilliant sunshine radiating from a picture perfect blue ski as my skis zig zaged down a rolling table cloth of breathtakingly white crisp snow. Yes, I know mother nature was on my side of the mountain that day.
The Peak-2-Peak gondola enabled me to ski both of Whistler’s mountains (green and blue runs) twice in one day, something I never was able to do previously in my 25 years of skiing Whistler and Blackcomb. Without the new gondala’s speedy commuter technology a mediocre skiier like me was challenged to explore all of one mountain never mind two in one day.
One other reason I’d love to win: I could relive last year’s blissful experience with my current ski-bunny-65 year old boyfriend who is a diehard skier and loves Whistler Mountain.

on October 9th, 2009Ive never rode in Whistler! I am a beginner snowboarder, and think that learning at Whislter/ Blackcomb would be the ultimate learning experience! I have friends up there willing to take me out and some EDGE passes would be fantastic!! I live in Vancouver and plan on going to Whistler often this winter…I absolutely love it up there and maybe someday will get to live there and experience the lifestyle and really get my snowboarding skills up to match my Whistler local friends’ skills!!
YAY WHISTLER!!!
Julie
on October 9th, 2009I’ve been a skiier since I could walk but sadly I don’t get out nearly as much as I would like. I would love to use the EDGE pass to get out more often.

on October 12th, 2009Well, Chris, for a day anyway–just to clarify it’s two one-day Edge passes we’re talking about here, not a season’s pass…
