Update: Better late than never–I got an audition!

Giddy as a schoolgirl--I might get to be in the 2010 ceremonies!

Written by: Julie Ovenell-Carter

Yeah, I’m giddy as a schoolgirl right now: VANOC just called and invited me to the auditions for the Opening and/or Closing Ceremonies at the 2010 Winter Games. I am trying to be gracious about the fact that they gave me about 27 hours notice–the big deal is tomorrow from 3:30 to 6:30 pm at St. Patrick’s school at Main and 11th. It’s apparently the last weekend for the auditions and I applied so long ago I figured they didn’t love me because I was just too darned old.

I’m going to be 50 on February 6, 2010 and I could think of no better way to celebrate that big day that by waving the Canadian flag in front of the world. I’ve got a buddy–an Olympics cynic of the highest order–who will no doubt be horrified by my child-like delight at this opportunity, but hey: I figure when it comes to birthday parties, go big or go home…

Stay tuned!

Thanks Julie! I sure wish I knew what to expect…come to think of it, anyone out there who has already been through the process? Let me know?

Am I the Olympics-downer buddy? … if so, I’d like to say that I’m not so much horrified by your desire to wade right into the midst of the world’s second largest theme party as I am intrigued. It’s on my short-list of places I’d rather not be, but nevertheless I shall cheer you on with heartfelt good wishes. (I might actually watch ….)

Step out of line, let off a flare and wave to me, please! … because, seriously: what can they do at that point?! (If it were Beijing, I wouldn’t ask. See, I do care.)

That’s the perfect picture. You said you used to believe that if you swing high enough you could see over the mountains. I thinks that’s true.

Congratulations. I’m still hoping to be far away, somewhere warm when the big party takes place. Maybe I’ll see you on T.V. from some little hacienda in Mexico. You can alway come join me after the party.

Nah, the Olympic ogre is a guy-buddy. You’re all clear. I had such a super time today that even if I didn’t make the final cut, I will have happy memories of trying…
